My world-view in education has changed from a limited outlook to a confident enthusiasm as a result of my instructional experience.Having an understanding of a variety of philosophical outlooks concerning education has helped me broaden my approach to the educational process.I have learned that the teaching profession would be more accurately described as a calling from my world-view.As a believer in this calling, my responsibility is to live selflessly in my approach to work, family, and my chosen profession. This will entail aspects of epistemology, metaphysics, and axiology in order to maintain instructional methodology that is forward thinking. To live a subservient lifestyle in a classroom does not mean the student will rule at all over the teacher.Rather setting examples of serving through meeting the needs of the student will be the vital part in obtaining a student's respect. We find ourselves looking towards these servant/leaders in our own social circles through times of emotional need. You may have noticed through times of struggle that the most powerful statements are made by those that lead by example. The statement is made powerful due to respect for the one giving it.In a classroom, the respect needs to be earned and not expected due to a simple position of authority by the teacher. Relationships with your students need to be made. This can be done by giving your Time, Talent, Treasure, and Thanks .These four reminders encompass a large variety of ways one can serve. Time:A teacher's time can be used in a variety of ways.Your lunches can be used serving students individual needs.Time after school for extra tutoring is another possibility.Coaching sports, leading clubs, and providing out of class social environments will also meet these time needs of the student. Talent:Talent is given through the expertise in the subject matter being taught. It is by a number of talents that are required in order for an instructor to live out a highly successful calling. The key is not to limit this ideal to the subject that you were assigned to teach, but to let it be carried on in all avenues for service towards our students needs. Treasure:Treasure is the one that most will struggle with. This is not just a monetary mean. It could be books that you may not want to be lost or ruined by loaning them out.Maybe the use of your home for meetings by clubs, teams etc...An opportunity may come about to help a less fortunate student buy school supplies.Opportunities will present themselves do to the imperfect world that we live in. Thanks:The thanks will come if you live up to the calling that is before you. What you do with the thanks is the crucial point in the four T's action plan.If you accept the thanks for yourself you have unfortunately voided everything that led up to the compliment. The definition of a calling is a convocation or summoning. This is a solemn appointment. In order to fully realize its application one has to take the appreciation given and transfer it to the one that has given the opportunity for the service for it to be realized
