May 12th - 16th

Congratulations!!! AP Exams are over.  In the upcoming weeks we will be reviewing for the Regents as well as working on a number of other projects.  Most of these projects are going to be fun, in class, history projects, and there will be little homework.  Students will be expected to continue to study and there will be occaisional quizzes to keep students prepared for the Regents.

May 5th - 9th

Friday of this week will be the students' AP Exam, as a result we will spend the week reviewing and talking about issues in contemporary American politics.  Homework for this week is to study.

April 28th - May 2nd

We are continuing to prepare for the AP Exam which will take place on Friday, May 9th.

Monday: Discussion on the idea of representing Change over Time in a historical essay.  Debating the beginning and end of "eras" of U.S. History

Homework: arguement for the 3 most significant changes in U.S. politics, society, economics.

Tuesday: Finding Connections across American History.  Today in class we took events that were seemingly unrelated and found connections between them.

Homework: STUDY

Wednesday: Oral Examination / Pop Quiz

Homework: targeted content study: individual assignments for each student

Thursday: "Modern Times" and discussion

Homework: How accuratley does Charlie Chaplin's film represent social, economic, and political realities during the Great Depression?

Friday: Debating Modern America

April 21st - 25th

This week we will begin reviewing for the AP Exam. Almost every day from here on in will consist of a timed essay. Each day, I will post two possible topics for the next day's essay online so that students can have a chance to study and review the necessary material. The class is being structured like this to encourage healthy study habits and to get the students used to timed essays.

Monday: last day of spring break

Tuesday: Tomorrow's Topics: Changes in American Cold War Foreign Policy - or - Populism: success or failure of reform in the late 1800's.

Wednesday: Tomorrow's Topics: Social Impact of War(s) - or - Growing Sectional Conflict in the 1800's

Thursday: Tomorrow's Topics: Industrialization, Immigration, and Urbanization - or - American Imperialism

Friday: Monday's Topic: Organizing American History; each student will need to have divided all of American History into ten distinct eras;  this work should include an argument for when the era begins and ends, as well as the major events of the era.

April 7th - 11th

This week we are completing our discussion of the 70's and wrapping up our work on a variety of social and political movements (Civil Rights, the Cold War, the growth of Suburbia).  We will also lay the groundwork for working on recent American History when we return.  Students will be expected to have a thorough understanding of chapters 40 and 41 in their textbook and have completed a detailed outline of these chapters upon their return to class on April 22nd.

March 24th - 28th

This week we will begin our discussion of the Cold War.  We will be working on both domestic and U.S. foreign policy this week and it is absolutly necessary that students stay on top of the work.  We need to finish our course material by the end of April so that we can have two full weeks to study in preparation for the AP Exams.

Monday: No Class

Tuesday: The division of Europe and the beginning of the Cold War

Homework:  In Hofstadter volume III; read Part VII docs. 8 & 10, and write a one page essay outlining American perspectives on the Cold War.

Wednesday - Friday: as we continue our discussion of the Cold War, the students must stay on top of their reading.  We will be discussing the 50's for the remainder of the week, this will include a discussion of the Korean War, as well as the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement.

Homework: Students need thoroughly read Chaps 37 and 38 between now and Monday.  There will be a quiz on Monday before moving on with the material.

Mar 17th - 21st

We will finish our work on the New Deal and WWII on Monday and Tuesday.  We will have a test on Wednesday and begin talking about the Cold War on Thrusday.  Friday there is no school.

Monday and Tuesday: Discussing the Homefront during WWII.

Homework: Study

Wednesday: TEST

Thursday: Lecture: Introduction to the Cold War

Homework: Read Chap 36 and complete the DBQ packet
