Reading Groups Begin Again!

Beginning April 22nd, the intermediate students will begin reading a new novel within a group composed of classmates from the entire intermediate unit.  Each group will be reading a different book.  Everyone will focus on the plot of their story with the help of a worksheet/guide.  The culminating project will be to invent a cereal based upon the fictional book read.  After thinking of a name for the cereal, the students will then design a cereal box for it.  We expect to see some very creative "new" cereals!

April Writing Assignment

Our students read an age appropriate summary from the book, "From Baghdad With Love" which is in their Storyworks magazine this month.  This nonfiction book is a heartwarming story of an American soldier in Baghdad, Iraq and the puppy he found and adopted.  Their writing assignment is to choose :  a narrative approach, retelling the story from the point of view of the puppy, or write a persuasive letter from the soldier to his commanding officer asking for permission to send the dog back to the United States.  This assignment will be complete by April 30th.
