All About TL

Along with studying grammar this year, we will take a look at various literary classics, short stories, poems, etc.  The students will experience a parallell between Total Language and their Social Studies classes in most instances.  The students will also focus on the writing process through graphic organizers, rough drafts, peer editing, conferencing with Mrs. Smith and finally presenting clean, well-written assignments for a final assessment grade.  In April and May, our students will experience their Spring Projects. They will choose an aspect of the Middle Ages to study, and research this topic using their creativity as well as the practice of the formal writing process.  We will be using the MLA citation method in all of our formal writing pieces.  Mrs. Smith will leave the guidelines up in a link at the bottom of this entry all year.  In addition, there will also be an MLA handbook on her desk to be signed out throughout the school year as well.

Extra Credit Opportunities!

Here are two entirely optional extra credit opportunities for our Middle School students.  The assignments are due the first day of school.  The 8th years' essays must be 12 font, Arial or Times and double spaced.

The seventh year students may hand write theirs, but must have two questions from sheet one answered, their reading log and the questions at the end.

Both assignments will be worth 50 extra points.  This is a rare extra credit opportunity!:)
