Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye has been appointed as the University’s 4th substantive Vic-Chancellor by the Governing Council of Osun State University, which is led by Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN).
The announcement was made at Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday, January 3, 2022.
Professor Adebooye’s appointment was approved by the Visitor to the University, His Excellency Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, after a thorough screening by the school’s Governing Council.
The recently appointed substantive Vice-Chancellor, Ademola Adesoji, is a professor of Plant Physiology with a 26-year academic career, according to a statement made by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji.
He served the Osun State University in numerous roles during his nearly two decades of academic labor, including as a member of the Governing Council, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Provost/Dean, Director, and Head of Department, among others.
He was Ambassador Scientist for the German Government Humboldt Foundation, Secretary-General of the African-German Network Excellence in Science (AGNES), and Regional Project Coordinator for the Government of Canada Projects in West Africa at the international level.
He has also served as a Visiting Professor in universities in Nigeria, Germany, and Canada, as well as providing UN services.
He has taken advantage of nine (9) completely financed international research fellowships around the world, including the highly distinguished United Nations University Fellowship in Germany, and has received 25 research awards and over 100 travel scholarships.
While announcing the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, the Council Chairman, Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, praised the Visitor and Governor of the state for his persistent support, which has made the University one of the fastest-growing universities in the country.
“I am pleased that, notwithstanding the issues surrounding the appointment process, the Council was able to put up serious effort and sacrifice in the appointment proceedings, culminating in Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye’s appointment.” We believe he possesses the qualities necessary to propel the university forward and write a new chapter in the university’s quest to realize the founding fathers’ ambitions,” he said.
He asked the Senate, management team, and personnel of the university to keep the peace and work with the new Vice-Chancellor.
