Enugu State, which is in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone, is bordered to the north by the states of Benue and Kogi, to the east and southeast by Ebonyi State, to the south and southwest by Abia State, and to the west by Anambra State. There is only one prestigious Federal University in Enugu State namely
- University of Nigeria, Nsukka: UNN is a federal university in Nsukka, Enugu State, in eastern Nigeria. The University of Nigeria was established by Nnamdi Azikiwe[5] in 1955 and was inaugurated on 7 October 1960. It has four campuses: three in Enugu State (Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla) and one in Abia State (Aba).
Taking its cues from the American higher education system, the Institution of Nigeria is Nigeria’s first fully indigenous and independent university. This institution was among the five most prestigious in Nigeria and the first land-grant university in Africa.

A score of 160 on the JAMB UTME is required to get admitted to UNN. Any UTME score below 160 will automatically disqualify an applicant.

There two state universities in Enugu state which are one of the reputable State universities in Nigeria. The school names are: Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu.
- Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno: In Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, lies the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS).
